Introducing the Tulikivi Fireplace
TULIKIVI (TWO-lee-KEE-vee), in Finnish, literally means "fire stone."
A Tulikivi is one of the most elegant, quiet, and clean-burning heating and cooking fireplaces ever devised. There are no gimmicks, gadgets, inserts or moving parts. A Tulikivi fireplace is solid soapstone, inside and out, and is a well-built, permanent part of your home. It requires minimal maintenance and lasts for generations.
Simplicity & Functionality
The concept is simple. Made of high-quality
soapstone, the environmentally responsible wood-burning
Tulikivi takes advantage of a thermal-mass principle
used for centuries in Scandinavian fireplaces.
Unlike a conventional fireplace, which sends
warm air up your chimney, the Tulikivi soaks
up the fire's heat and stores it. Then it slowly
and gently releases the warmth long after the
fire has gone out. And, because the stone generates
a natural, evenly circulated radiant heat (like
the warmth of the sun), the air in your house
is never too hot or dry.
The Tulikivi is environmentally responsible. Because a unique contra-flow design and long flame path ensure almost complete combustion, the fire burns extremely clean, producing minimal emissions of smoke and carbon monoxide. Proper wood burning does not affect the atmosphere's carbon dioxide balance, so using a Tulikivi does not promote the Greenhouse Effect.
Elegant Soapstone
Tulikivi soapstone is high-grade, naturally quarried stone with a soft gray color and pleasing luster, which can be easily customized into a variety of designs.
Soapstone is a soft-textured stone that possesses unrivaled heat-retaining properties. In fact, by volume, it retains more than twice as much heat as ordinary masonry brick. And it absorbs the heat faster and radiates it longer. The absorbent stone holds heat extremely well. After the fire is out, the fireplace radiates warmth from all stone surfaces, ensuring an even, long-lasting heat supply.
